defend your microbiome at all costs

If your microbiome gets disrupted, you can experience these issues:

One move, two wins

"Commercial lubricants suck: they cause dryness, UTIs, yeast and BV. Why can’t we have a moisturizer with good slip that also protects vaginal flora? Or even better, improves vaginal flora???"

--Anastasia Visotsky, ZEROTABOOS founder. Read my story testing Juicy Serum here

Bye, pesky lubes

Oral contraceptives, hormonal changes, pregnancy, and stress can reduce natural lactoferrin levels in vaginal fluids, contributing to dryness and greater susceptibility to infections. Our water-based serum improves moisture instantly, glides on smoothly, won’t stain, and restores balance while steadily resupplying this protective peptide.

Microbiome Impact

Solving one thing but hurting another? It’s like most lubricants were made without any thought for the vaginal microbiome. Oh wait—that’s exactly what happened. When you register a lube with the FDA, you don’t have to show its impact on vaginal flora or whether it matches vaginal osmolality.

Frequently asked questions

Per FDA, lubricants are considered medical devices, and new products must go through a lengthy and expensive process to be approved. We plan to finalize our application in the next few years. Until then, we cannot use the word ‘lubricant’ on the label or in our marketing.

What we have done already:

  • Formulated with vagina-friendly ingredients, bringing the osmolality of the serum as close as possible to that of vaginal fluid.
  • Completed cytotoxicity testing, confirming that our formula does not interfere with human cells.
  • Completed volunteer testing of samples.
  • Completed vaginal microbiome tests (not required), showing a positive impact on vaginal flora.

What’s left: an official third-party clinical trial, which is also the most expensive part of the FDA filing process.

Funny enough, plenty of FDA-approved lubricants can still disrupt the vaginal microbiome. Big brands like KY Jelly, for example, are often hyperosmolar (osmolality is too high), meaning they pull water out of vaginal cells and leave tissue feeling dry or damaged. Others contain glycerin, fragrances, or harsh preservatives that upset protective Lactobacillus and weaken the epithelial barrier. This disruption creates conditions where harmful bacteria or yeast can overgrow, increasing the risk of BV, yeast infections, and UTIs.

Water-based lubes can cause a burning sensation if their pH doesn’t match your vaginal pH. Vaginal pH shifts with hormones and health—like during BV, menopause, or after sex—so a product that feels fine sometimes may sting at other times. Yeast infections don’t usually raise pH, but inflammation can still make tissue more sensitive.
